Join us for this sharing with Camilla Schielin who is currently in residence at Workshop Foundation as part of the Creative Crossroads program of the Creative Europe project A Life Long Burning – Futures Lost & Found.
In Camilla Schielin’s new research, the She Wolf serves as a carrier for her questions around presence, retreat and sensuality, and suckling as a means of establishing identity. She is a mythological fantasy and founding mother of a “Roman Empire” (here viewed more as a projection surface than actual antiquity), a somewhat esoteric archetype, but also interwoven with pop culture. A figure who transcends boundaries, she is not only flesh and instinct, but also hauntingly charged.

Her latest performance into (quickening ground) premiered at Tanzquartier Wien in March 2024 and was shown during the Impulstanzfestival as part of the 8:tension young choreographers series.
In her work, she deals with various forms of ghostly return and the persistence of the past, blending fact, fiction and desire.
With the help of biography and the personal, contemporary references and pop culture, a wasteland of possibilities opens up for future fantasies.
Her performances take place in various settings on stages, in exhibition spaces and in public spaces. In addition to her solo projects, which include take me to my house (2021) and in a tryst (2022), she founded the performance group maria mercedes with Julia Müllner; their collaborative works include ballade (2021) again expressing things maybe (2023).
In 2021, Schielin received the danceWEB scholarship as part of ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival. As a performer, she has worked with Nick Mauss for the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, with Olivia Erlanger, Michikazu Matsune, Nikima Jagudajev, Doris Uhlich and as part of the dance group Parasol with Ian Kaler and Alix Eynaudi.
In Spring 2025, she was choreographer for Kurdwin Ayub’s play at Volksbühne Berlin and was nominated creative crossroads artist for the cycle 25/26.
